Late-May rainfall sparks winter crop planting and fresh confidence across rural property markets

Late-May rainfall has delivered a significant confidence boost to many parts of Australia’s agricultural sector, accelerating winter crop planting and establishment, and it certainly won’t hurt the prospects of rural property owners considering a sale this winter. 

According to the latest Bendigo Bank Agribusiness Insightsi, widespread rainfall in late May provided a much-needed boost to the soil moisture profile across southern Queensland and parts of New South Wales.  

According to Nicole Stearman, Principal of Raine & Horne Rural Gulgong | Kandos, the recent rains have transformed sentiment across rural communities in NSW’s Central West and Central Tablelands regions. 

“The last three weeks have been a hive of activity," Nicole said. “People are back out buying seed and getting their winter crops in the ground.” 

She believes the widespread rainfall has restored confidence, not only for existing landowners but also for those considering entering the rural property market. “It’s put a lot of confidence back out there for people to invest in their own properties, but also to start looking again at the rural market,” she said.
