Blue Mountains property masterpiece and home to John Olsen hits the market

November 27, 2018

A stunning Blue Mountains escape where celebrated artist John Olsen brushed several masterworks in the 1990s is on the market for $2.995 million.

The magnificent and historical Falls House is an impressive property located at 165-169 Falls Road, Wentworth Falls offering a superb location and lifestyle potential for an owner-occupier, or a buyer with an eye for creating additional income streams, according to the selling agent, Nicole Hogan, Sales Agent, Raine & Horne Leura.

“Apart from the property’s magnificent presence, Fall’s House is soaked in Australian history, while its position on the edge of the World Heritage Blue Mountains National Park is another significant selling point for those buyers who have made enquiries,” said Ms Hogan.

“The sweeping private estate is set amid approximately 5,560 square metres of breathtaking grounds, located in the idyllic mountain village of Wentworth Falls.”

Steeped in local and Australian history

Built on the original site of the historic Tolls Hotel, Falls House and its stunning buildings were developed originally in the 1930s to support the property’s previous commercial existence as the iconic Blue Mountains Hotel. Ms Hogan added, “The unique dining room that is surrounded by dry stone walls was originally the Tolls Hotel wine cellar.”

The artist John Olsen plied his trade in the 1990s as one of Australia’s foremost painters from Falls House, which was purchased by his late wife Katherine Howard. Ms Howard sold the property to Dr Monroe in 2000. The property is now privately owned.

Famed for his masterpieces such as the exuberant Spanish encounter painted in 1960 and the beguiling Five Bells in 1963, Mr Olsen added ‘The Artist Studio” during his tenure of Fall’s House.

The accommodation at the magnificent property also includes the ‘Main Residence’, ‘The Stables’, ‘The Bungalow’, as well as a heated indoor pool.

Ms Hogan says, “Falls House is attracting buyers with large families who are seeking a sizeable estate to accommodate their brood for holidays, or lifestyle buyers who have identified the financial potential of the property as an accommodation asset.

“The property could be established as a traditional bed & breakfast or for holidaymakers who prefer Airbnb style arrangements.
