Brisbane’s Central South commercial precinct is the traditional hub of Brisbane's industrial users. The precinct boasts several impressive landmarks including the Brisbane Transit Terminal at Acacia Ridge (formally Acacia Ridge Rail Yards), Woolworths’ massive 90,000m² South East Queensland Distribution Facility at Larapinta, the ‘Magic Mile’ at Moorooka, Archerfield Airport and Speedway, the Brisbane Markets at Rocklea, and the Queensland Tennis Centre (Pat Rafter Arena) at Yeerongpilly.

Suburb Summary

Rocklea - About 9km south of the CBD. Mostly industrial (mainly transport) with warehousing facilities. Situated on the busy Ipswich Motorway. Train station on the Beenleigh line. Home to the Brisbane Markets, the city’s fruit and vegetable wholesale outlet.

Moorooka - About 7km south of the CBD. Lower western side dominated by retail, particularly motor vehicle dealerships on Ipswich Road (the ‘Magic Mile’), light industry and warehouses. Main shopping district on Beaudesert Road, with over 100 businesses, many serving the suburb’s large Sudanese community. Moorooka has its own railway station, regular bus services.

Salisbury - About 11km south of the CBD. Around half the land is allocated commercial/industrial, the other half residential. Salisbury has its own railway station, good access to major arterial roads.

Archerfield - About 11km south of the CBD, along Ipswich Road. Sparsely populated, most land occupied by Archerfield Airport (mainly light commercial/passenger aircraft). A commercial precinct supports the facility. Home to Brisbane International Speedway, with regular speedcar, sprintcar and fireworks events. Nearest train station is at Coopers Plains (0.9km away).

Coopers Plains - About 13km south-west of the CBD. Industrial and residential. Upgrades to the Southeast Freeway and the busway to the city have boosted growth and popularity. Coopers Plains is next to Griffith University Nathan Campus and the QEII Hospital.

Acacia Ridge - About 15km south of the CBD. Business is predominantly light industry, featuring a new technology park. Home to the Brisbane Multi-User Terminal (BMUT), Australia's first major multi-user rail terminal. The BMUT is the main facility for the transfer of freight from the interstate standard gauge system to the narrow gauge QLD network. During 2006/07 the terminal processed more than 270,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU). 

Yeerongpilly - About 7km south of the CBD. A river suburb, home to the Queensland Tennis Centre (Pat Rafter Arena), boasting 23 international standard courts. Close to the University of Queensland (St Lucia). Easy access to major arterial roads. Served by ferries, buses and Yeerongpilly railway station.

Larapinta - About 18km from the CBD. Larapinta is a bushland area in Brisbane's outer south. It is on the train-line but does not have its own station. Home to Radius Industrial City (RIC), with 50 hectares of developable area. RIC is within 250 metres of Woolworths’ 90,000m² South East Queensland Distribution Facility. RIC is a prime warehousing and logistics precinct offering quick line road distribution throughout South East Queensland via the proposed interchange offering general industry zoning allowing 24 hours, 7 days a week operation. RIC features 1.5 kilometre of frontage to the Logan Motorway offering major site exposure.  Other features include proposed direct “left in” ingress to the site off the eastbound Logan Motorway, full access on and off the Motorway via Paradise Road Interchange, designed for B-Double access.
