Environmental Efficiency in Commercial Buildings
Time to act on Environmental Efficiency
in Commercial Buildings
Since 1999 the National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) has been used voluntarily by the owners of commercial buildings, and now hotels and shopping centres, to determine how much their buildings impact on the environment through their day to day operations.
This June, the Building Energy Efficiency Disclosure Act 2010 was passed, which will lead the way for mandatory measurement of commercial buildings environmental impact. This mandatory reporting will be rolled out slowly starting with commercial spaces of over 2000m² that are to be sold or leased.
